Jackson Park PTO Meeting Minutes

November 9, 2010

I. I. The regular monthly meeting of the Jackson Park PTO was held on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 7:00 pm, in the Jackson Park playroom.  Meeting was called to order at 7:05 by PTO President, Joycelyn Barnes. Introductions of PTO board were made. Minutes from last meeting were reviewed and approved.  Motion to approve minutes,Sarah Holohan; second, Cindy Thierry.

II. Treasures Report presented by PTO Treasurer, Sharon Beatty.  Discussed:

  1. Fall Fundraiser orders will be delivered to school on Nov. 16th
  2. Orders raised $3,343 with an additional $810 cash donations
  3. Papa Johns funds raised: $36
  4. E-Script funds raised: $79.84
  5. Check received from Target $252.16 (discussed need to spread the word to increase support of the Target Take Charge program)
  6. Money spent on Moms & Muffins, Dads & Donuts, and donation to Leukemia /Lymphoma Society
  7. $35,333.22 balance as of 10/31/10

III. Bob Elgin reporting on behalf of the University City School Board

  1. Jackson park boundary decision being made Thursday, Nov. 11th
  2. School Board will also be deciding on what to do with the Nathanial Hawthorne and Delmar Harvard buildings
  3. Bob Elgin is resigning, board will be voting on his replacement

IV. Principal’s report given by Dr. Christine Powers

  1. Thank you to Moms & Muffins chair
  2. Thank you for meal provided on the evening of Parent Teacher conferences
  3. Picture days was a success
  4. Progress reports going home next Friday, Nov. 19th
  5. Awards being presented to students and sent home with Progress reports

V. Guest Speaker, Karl Scheidt, presenting on JP Construction Project

Ameresco Construction Contract approved by School Board; Shaun Bauerle project  manager

  1. New cafeteria, new kitchen, new gymnasium and stage, & new faculty lounge
  2. MSD- mandated best management practice storm water retention basin
  3. OCR/ADA compliance renovations of restrooms and admin & nurses offices
  4. Old gym into library with computer lab; old stage into office spaces
  5. Old library into 3 new kindergarten classrooms

12/1/10 break ground

12/15/10 - 3/1/11 footings & foundations

3/1/11 - 5/1/11 building envelope

5/1/11 - 7/31/11 interior finishes & new addition

6/1/11 - 8/15/11 interior renovations

8/1/11 - 8/14/11  punch list

8/15/11 building turnover

8/1/11 - 9/30/11 construction  & commissioning of BMP

10/1/11 - 11/1/11 restoration of park lands

 

VI. Future Fundraising ideas list to be sent home in backpacks

VII. Playground update presented by Cindy Thierry

  1. presented drawings /prices of potential playgrounds
  2. district is willing to pitch in $
  3. possible receive grants to help with cost
  4. aiming for completion by next summer
  5. found a company that will tear down existing playground and donate to third world country

 

VIII. University City Holiday Appeal: JP PTO to help 100 U. City families during holidays w/ Thanksgiving baskets & Christmas Gift cards to Walmart/Target.  families and monies pulled from all grade schools, middle school and high school.

IX.Unfinished Business
