Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm by Joycelyn Barnes, PTO President.
I. Welcome and Introductions of current board led by Joycelyn
II. Treasurer’s report presented by Cassandra Conner
- statement balance of $44,157.95
- balance with outstanding items $44,179.79
- possible projects: soccer field or new marquee out front
III. School Board Liaison Rod Jennings not present
IV. Principal’s Report by Mr. Elliott Shostak
- welcomed and thanked all for attending
- wonderful start to the school year, 11 full days in
- 405 students and all have been very cooperative!
- his mission is for all students to receive an outstanding education and have fun throughout the year
- expecting a very successful year
- September 21st, Wednesday, Curriculum Night
V. PTO 2011-2012 Calendar presented by Joycelyn Barnes, PTO President
- change passport festival from Feb. 14th as that is Valentine’s Day
- picture day rescheduled for Monday Oct. 3rd and retakes, clubs and sports on Wed. Nov. 2nd
VI. Guest speaker Nurse Patricia Chandler
- fun, busy, fast-paced serious job
- new Missouri law that K and 1st grade will need state mandated vision screenings by an eye doctor
- emergency information sheets needs to be completed and on file for all students
- hygiene, bathroom skills, self care, needs to be taught by parents to all students
- best method to reach Nurse Chandler to pass along pertinent information is by phone call to her at the school, note directly to teacher or herself, or personal visit to her office, NOT an email
VII. PTO Board elections
- Vice President Kwira Jones: graduate of JP, 7th grade teacher, son in 2nd grade
- Treasurer Cassandra Conner: Science teacher at U City HS, Teacher of the year for U City District, has 4th grade daughter at JP
- vote put to the attendees, both ladies voted in
VIII. Unfinished Business
- Ice Cream Social: BIG SUCCESS, came out ahead $116.18 and there were great booths from girl scouts, boy scouts, soccer, golf and ymca aftercare; invite was sent out on facebook
- eScrip: free to join, easy $ for JP, contest in October to win $50 schnucks gift card
- new playground is in and looks great, BIG shout out to Cindy Thiery for organizing this task!!!
IX. New Business
- Innisbrook: BIG BIG FUNDRAISER running Sept. 23rd - Oct. 7th headed up by Kwira Jones, looking for 100% return of folders regardless of sales
- Movie Night? presented by Nikki Sheele, Outdoor family movie night, rent big screen, bring lawn chairs and blankets, build community and bring people together, concessions to raise money
- Barnes and Noble book fair proposed by Elliot Shostak, spring, Saturday, display kids artwork
- JP PTO on Facebook proposed by Sarah Holahan to pass info on events, not as a voicing of concerns
